Professionalism becoming a joke as sports get confused over what really matters
By Matt Harms
The ìTestî and One-Day cricket series between Australia and Bangladesh played in Darwin and Cairns in winter was a joke.
The Ross Smith Secondary senior team probably would have put in a better performance than the visitors.
The Aussies slaughtered Bangladesh by over a hundred runs in both Tests they played in July. Bangladeshís batting was very poor, their fielding and bowling were better. Hopefully they will do much better in the VB day/night games series, especially as they seem to have learned a lot from the Aussies.
However, the series raises the question of whether Bangladesh deserves to be playing Test cricket.

Port Power in the AFL played Sturt in the SANFL at the beginning of the year and Port smashed them by twenty-five goals. The players who kick a lot of goals during trial games are not included in the highest goal kicking by a player during the real season ñ so why should ìTestî matches against teams like Bangladesh count. They are really just trial matches for Bangladesh to learn more about professional cricket.

Speaking of professionalism an incident involving the AFL. When Port played West Coastî Peter Burgoyneî went a bit over the top when he spear tackled ìDaniel Kerrî to the ground. Three weeks wasnít enough for a tackle like, a spear tackle. In Rugby he wouldíve been given eight to ten week suspension.
If his spine did happen to snap Daniel would become a paraplegic and Peter would have to carry that guilt for the rest of his life. The AFL should bring in rules so that your not allowed to do spear tackles or any other dangerous tackles if the AFL or any other Aussie Rules football ( club players ) tackle dangerously they should be fined a thousand dollars or more and they should also receive a three to four week suspension.

Ross Smith students are again leading the world in on-line publishing after the school became one of the first to feature student-produced videos on their website as part of the literacy project in 1999.

The Ross Smith E-View was started this year after articles were put onto an international schools website with wired.com, but in 2002 Ross Smith has made a magazine on the net for themselves.
